Have you ever wanted to find a book or activity for girls that would do more than provide a few minutes of fun?

I’m talking about positive books and activities that could leave a lasting impact on the girls in your life and teach them the tools of happiness!

Today, we are going to talk alllllllll about positivity books and resources for girls. I’ve been discovering so many amazing resources about positivity for girls that the world NEEDS to know about.

Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of research into the 8-12 year old girl market, mostly due to having an incredible experience teaching a workshop at the Fulltime Families Annual Rally last month.

The workshop was called Confident Girls, Confident Women and about 80 mothers and daughters participated! It was SO much fun to incorporate positivity, fun, and coloring pages into the workshop.

I wanted to do more research into how to better serve this market and speak to girls about positivity, so I could put together more workshops and products in the future!

I left the store with quite a collection!

I left the store with quite a collection!

Naturally, the next step was to raid the bookstore for anything I could get my hands on related to to positivity for girls. I knew just where to start… the American Girl section!

I left a sizable dent in the bookshelves, as you can see from the photo :)

I found books on mindfulness, beauty, self-care, money management, success, sticky situations, friendship, law of attraction, and more! I was quite impressed.

The resources below are so delightful. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have <3

Mindfulness for Girls

I was instantly drawn to these two products. The colors alone caught my eye, but the information inside had me completely hooked. “Breathe like a Bear” has breathing exercises and other activities for mindfulness with kids (even some Laughter Yoga!!). Plus, did I mention the BEAUTIFUL artwork? I just want to flip through all the pictures and smile at them.

Mindful Kids” is a super cool card deck with mindful activities for kids. I’ve been using these activities myself and love them. There are activities to help you focus, calm your mind, feel energized, focus on the good, and more. These activity cards give you a few minutes of mindfulness that can make a huge impact on your day.

These products are definitely coming with me to any future Laughter Yoga classes.

Positivity with American Girl

Did you know that in addition to selling dolls and creating stories that teach girls about history, American Girl also has a huge library of books on life skills? I used to have a large collection of these books as a kid and I loved them (the positivity/self-care interests started young!). American Girl has taught me so much about life.

The reason I love these books so much is that they speak positivity into each of these subjects. They teach kindness, courage, and navigating life’s sticky situations with a positive attitude.

Here is an example of why these books are so amazing.

Your Happiest You” teaches girls about the care and keeping of your mind and spirit. It’s all about happiness (a personal favorite topic of mine). Each chapter outlines a different happiness habit.

This book was beautifully done. It talks about emotions and how to manage them, being kind to yourself and others, and how to look for the good in life.

It has relevant examples for kids (and adults!) that really demonstrate these teachings.

Want to know the secret to this book’s greatness? It’s based on positive psychology!! Did you catch that? Positive Psychology. BOOM. How’s that for positivity?

Not only are these books a good read for girls, but I would also recommend them for adults. They are a fun afternoon read and I found a few things in the money management book that I should probably know how to do. 🤔

Other books from American Girl

American Girl has A LOT of books. This list gives you an example of the variety that they offer. You can find all of the current books on the American Girl website. Before ordering a book, check the publication date to see if you are ordering an updated edition. Many of the books have been updated to include technology and modern day topics for girls (cyberbullying, communicating online, etc).

Mindset and Success for Girls

If you’re looking for a positive book for your older pre-teen and teenage girls, then you have to get Success Principles for Teens.

Not only do I recommend this book because I am a Certified Canfield Success Trainer, but also because the knowledge is crucial for a positive mindset. I wouldn’t have put in the work to get certified if the content wasn’t well worth it!!

Jack Canfield is the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, a featured teacher in the movie The Secret, an expert in success mindset and self-esteem, and an all around incredible human being.

In addition to being a good read for you and your teen, it’s also a good way to start conversations about habits and mindset. It’s never too early or too late to start creating more positive habits.

Positive Affirmation Coloring Pages!

If we’re going to talk positivity resources for girls, I have to mention the Positively Delighted affirmation coloring pages! By spending a few minutes coloring with these coloring pages, your girls will create their own unique work of art and exponential amounts of new positive thoughts.

In my Etsy shop, you’ll find affirmation coloring pages with unicorns, mermaids, dinosaurs, sloths, llamacorns, and all the trendy creatures that girls are into these days!

If you’re looking for a fun activity for your girls, why not try something that also helps to create a positive mindset? Check out all of the coloring page sets here <3

What is Laughter Yoga? + How You Can Use It To Make Your Life More Awesome! | EP 20

Do you ever just want more happiness in your life?

Do you ever long to laugh, giggle, smile and feel good?

Do you ever wonder… “How can I put more of these good, awesome feelings into my life?!?!”

Well, you’re in luck because today I’m going to show you how you can make your life super awesome with a little something called Laughter Yoga.

      Pink polka dots.png

Okay… so what is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter Yoga is a unique form of group exercise where anyone can laugh for no reason! You don’t need jokes, humor, or comedy to participate in laughter yoga (though funny faces and silliness can definitely be involved).

Laughter is initiated in the group through various exercises and soon turns into real, contagious laughter through eye contact and childlike playfulness.

It’s called Laughter Yoga because it combines laughing with yoga breathing techniques, not because you’ll be doing any downward facing dog poses. However, stretching can be a part of laughter yoga sessions. This combination of laughter and yoga breathing brings more oxygen to the body and the brain, while expelling stale air in the lungs. This makes one feel more energetic and healthy after practicing laughter yoga.

Laughter Yoga is based on scientific research, which states that the body can’t distinguish between real and fake laughter, if done with willingness. You get the same benefits either way. So, even if you aren’t feeling particularly joyful, you can stimulate laughter and eventually it will become real, making you feel much more awesome. You can read up on the latest research on Laughter Yoga at LaughterYoga.org.

It was started in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria in a Mumbai park with just 5 people in India. Since then, Laughter Yoga has exploded! There are now over 1,000 laughter clubs in over 100 countries around the world.

So, you know why laughter is important, but why do you need laughter yoga?

      pink dots large.png

3 Reasons Why You Should Practice Laughter Yoga

Laughter should be sustained for at least 10-15 minutes to get the maximum health benefits. When was the last time you laughed for 10-15 minutes on command? Probably never, unless you’re just naturally giggly. This is why you should practice laughter yoga! You can use the exercises to stimulate a sustained 10-15 minutes of laughter. Since it is a form of exercise, you can laugh as long as you want. When we laugh throughout the day, it’s usually only for 3-4 seconds at a time. This is not nearly long enough to get the full benefits of laughing.

Laughter should be deep and hearty laughter from the diaphragm. It should be a big belly laugh, which is not always socially acceptable. Laughter yoga provides as safe environment to belly laugh to your heart’s content!

Don’t leave your laughter to chance. Laughter yoga is laughing unconditionally. You don’t have to wait for something funny to happen. You make laughter happen at any time. If you leave laughter to chance, based on humor, it may not happen. Use laughter yoga to be sure that you get the health and mood boosting benefits of laughing in your life.

      Pink polka dots.png

      How Often Should You Laugh?

Ideally, you should laugh for 10-15 minutes every day. If you’ve never done this before, that can be a lot of laughing. Try to practice your laughter exercises as often as you can and work up to every day if possible. Just make sure that you get your 10-15 minutes in at a time. Remember, it’s gotta be sustained! Don’t just laugh for 3 minutes in the morning and then laugh 4 more minutes later that day. Unless that’s in addition to your 10-15 minute practice ;D

      Pink polka dots.png

A word about safety and laughter

Just like any other type of exercise, you may want to take precautions if you have certain medical conditions. Including hernia, incontinence, hemorrhoids, heart problems, chest pain, pregnancy, major surgeries, epilepsy, cold and flu, or severe backache. If you have any of these conditions, first consult your doctor before practicing Laughter Yoga.

      pink dots large.png

      Health Benefits of Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga has sooooo many health benefits! The best part is that you can start feeling the benefits of laughter right away. It is especially good for increasing energy, reducing stress-related illnesses, and balancing your emotional state. Research has shown that laughing causes a kind of “internal jogging” that massages your internal organs and increases circulation, which flushes your body of toxins and allows you to operate at peak performance!

Here are five awesome health benefits of laughter yoga:

      1. Laughter yoga will instantly increase your mood and you’ll find yourself bursting into more spontaneous laughter throughout the day

      2. Laughter yoga is a healthy exercise that brings more oxygen into the body, reducing physical, mental, and emotional stress all at the same time.

      3. Laughter yoga strengthens the immune system and, according to my training manual, may help a variety of conditions, including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, depression, arthritis, allergies, asthma, bronchitis, backache, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, menstrual disorders, cancer and many others.

      4. Laughter yoga will improve relationships because laughter is a positive energy that allows you to connect with others more easily.

      5. Laughter yoga gives you a positive attitude, even in tough times, by increasing your optimism and positive mental state.

      pink dots large.png

Do a one minute laughter challenge!

Start at minute 8:45 of the episode to join in on the laughter challenge! We are going to laugh for one minute straight for no reason at all, other than I told you to!

Make sure that you are somewhere you can do this privately, otherwise you will probably get some pretty interesting looks from other people.

If someone else is around, get them to join in with you! It’s much easier to do a laughter challenge with others.

If you are by yourself, shrug your shoulders while laughing, as if saying “I don’t know why I’m laughing!”. Looking in a mirror can also be really helpful to make yourself laugh longer :)

      Alright! Let’s do this! :D

      pink dots large.png

      What did you think!?!

How do you feel? Do you feel more energized?!! Maybe a bit out of breath? Sounds like you need more practice :D

Are you curious about what laughter yoga exercises look like? Do you want to try more? Do you think this whole thing is crazy (yet you listened this far into the recording? Whatever your response… I want to hear about it! Comment below or send me a message on Instagram @positivelydelighted

How to Celebrate Your Wins (Even When You’re Feeling Discouraged) | EP 19

          Hey friend.

I know that you have big dreams and you are out there, trying to show up, move forward towards your dreams, and make things happen.

And some days, you are on top of the highest mountain, shouting your victories for all the world to hear. Then, the next day (or actually maybe just 10 minutes after the whole top of the mountain moment)… you’re feeling like you just got pushed off the mountain that only minutes ago you had conquered.

When this happens (and it will happen often), it’s so important to have the right mindset and to keep the good and the bad events of your life in perspective. Today, we are going to talk about how to celebrate your wins, even when you are feeling discouraged.

When you take the time to celebrate your wins, you just might find that you haven’t actually tumbled too far down the mountain. Maybe you’ve even found a shortcut or another path that you didn’t see before.

          Pink polka dots.png

          How this topic came about

I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot lately because I’ve been trying to do all the things (as usual). Because of this, I’ve gotten behind on podcast episodes. When I started this podcast, I set a goal to get out an episode every week and in November I published one interview. That interview was amazing though! It’s with Kwame Christian on how to negotiate and you should listen to it :D

When you don’t hit a goal it’s easy to get disappointed or discouraged. I know I have been! I’ve had thoughts like… “What have I been doing with my time?! Just watching Hallmark Christmas movies?!”

Maybe… but I’ve done other things too! And there is nothing wrong with watching Hallmark Christmas movies ya’ll <3

As soon as you start to have these types of discouraging thoughts, it’s good to take a minute and think about what you have accomplished and celebrate those wins.

          For example:

I may have published only one interview for the podcast this month, but I did accomplish a lot of other things.

When you stop to think about what you have accomplished and celebrate your wins, you realize that you have been making progress all along. Now, you can reassess your goals and continue to move forward. Getting out at least one episode a week is still very important to me, so now I can reconfirm this goal and reprioritize my schedule to make this happen.

Here are some tips for how to celebrate your wins, even when you’re feeling discouraged.

          pink dots large.png

          when you are discouraged

It can be really hard to celebrate when bad things happen. It’s typically not the first response in these situations, but everything happens for a reason. What you’re going to do in this stage is figure out what that reason is.

You’re going to do a practice called “Looking for the Lesson and the Gift”. This comes from a book called Happy for No Reason, by Marci Shimoff. This is one of my absolute favorite books and resources for happiness.

          Here is what you’ll do:

When something bad happens and you’re feeling discouraged, ask yourself these questions:

          • If there was a lesson here to be learned… what would it be?

          • And if there was a gift in this situation, what would that gift be?

          Here’s an example:

Say you went through a breakup. It was not something you wanted to go through and you are pretty upset about it. What’s the lesson and the gift here? Well, maybe the lesson is that you were dating the wrong type of person and the gift is that now you have the freedom to find someone else.

You may not be super happy with the lesson and the gift that you are receiving in that moment, but the important thing is that you can identify a lesson and a gift in your situation.

          Another example:

Since I launched my album “Music & Lyrics” back in August, I’ve been trying all kinds of promotional activities to sell more albums. Sometimes, I’ll have the greatest idea ever and immediately sell some CDs. Sometimes, I’ll have the greatest idea ever and not have a single sale. This rollercoaster can be really frustrating! But when something doesn’t work out, there is a lesson (I need to try something else) and a gift (knowledge of what to do next time).

After you determine your lesson and your gift, you can use the other ideas in this post to celebrate those as wins.

          Pink polka dots.png

remember to Celebrate the good too

It’s so easy to take the wins and good things in our life for granted, or even just move on from that excitement too quickly. We get excited for a minute and then say “Great! Now what?”

If something good happens to you today, take the time to be grateful and share your wins. Think of all the wonderful things that happened to you today. Really let it fill you up and be grateful for it in this moment.

When you take the time to appreciate the good and celebrate yourself, you’ll attract more things into your life that you can celebrate and be grateful for.

          Pink polka dots.png

          Keep a win log

When something great happens, write it down in a notebook, just like you would with a gratitude journal. This will be your win log of all the wonderful things you have accomplished and all of your successes.

Write down the big accomplishes and the small. Write down all of your lessons and gifts too! Remember the day you made the first dollar in your business. Celebrate the fact that you worked out three times this week. Write down any and all wins you can think of.

Your win log will be a great resource when you are feeling discouraged and will give you motivation to reach your goals.

          pink dots large.png

          Share your wins

When something awesome happens, share it! Tell your friends, family, accountability partner, mastermind group, etc. Share your wins with each other and then celebrate all the wins together! It’s even more powerful when you add more people to the celebration.

Make sure that when you are sharing, it’s with someone who will be a positive influence. You want someone who can help you look for the lesson and the gift and then celebrate all of your accomplishments. Then, you want to be able to do the same for them.

          pink dots large.png

          Throw yourself a party!

This is where we really get to the celebration of this topic. This is where you turn on some music, throw your hands up in the air, and celebrate the amazingness of the things you have accomplished. Pamper yourself, treat yourself, and most of all just feel good! Have a DIY spa day, take a nap, read a great book, take a break, or anything else to just celebrate and be present in this moment.

Here is the most important thing you can do to celebrate your wins:

Stand in front of a mirror and look yourself in the eye (in the eye is very important). Say to yourself “You’re doing a great job and I am proud of you.”

Then do some fist pumps in the air and get all giddy about it!

          pink dots large.png

I hope this has been helpful for you and I want you to take the time to celebrate your wins, even when you are feeling discouraged. Everything happens for a reason and I’m right there with you, looking for the lesson and the gift every day.

We’re doers, we’re dreamers, and we’re out there making things happen. Remember to stay in the moment and be grateful for all of your wins.

I believe in you. You got this!
